Handmade Whale Hanging Decoration
Handcrafted in Cornwall, this ceramic whale is a stunning addition to any home. Meticulously shaped and lovingly crafted by myself, with its sleek lines and delicate details, this hand-made whale captures the grace and majesty of these magnificent creatures. Using porcelain clay, I press it into a custom-designed plaster mold that I created. After the whale shape has partially dried, I meticulously hand-clean and refine the edges and back, and create a hole for hanging. Once fully dried, they undergo a firing process in my kiln at a temperature of 1096°C. To enhance their appearance, I employ a layering technique to paint them with vibrant colors, followed by glazing. They are then fired again at a higher temperature of 1296°C, resulting in a glossy finish that ensures durability. Finally, the completed decoration is adorned with a sturdy rustic wax cord, suitable for both indoor and outdoor hanging.
